A BRIDE’S REVERIE

The bell struck five………………………..

As the voice echoed through the streets

A gush of excitement chilled my spirit

I was wide awake………from the deep slumber

Shedding the last remnants of a sweetdream

Its my wedding day

Within a few hours……………

My angel will be holding my hands before the Holy Spirit

It seems a life time

since I went to school for the first time,

wearing short pinafore,

Holding my mum’s hand

And screaming all the way down

My dad getting me dressed,

Murmuring about my laziness

The sound thrashing from him

For getting drenched all over in rain

And the thousand kisses he gave

On seeing my tear-stained face

Still I remember the day-I was just thirteen then

When I thought of ending my life

On seeing my poor marks in physics

The pranks we did on school……….oh! they are unforgettable

And the day I got a love letter

I was thrilled beyond words-

Though I didn’t show it on my face

The ecstasy that filled me

When my sir praised my poem with wide open eyes

And said……

“You’ve got an exuberant imagination”

Hours that flew like seconds,

in the company of my friends-my sweet pies

the love and dreams we shared,

the tears and smiles we shed..............

The ever-green trees, election campaigns and the lover’s corner

of our college campus………….

And now I’ve reached here-the next stage of my life is going to start

Wedding bells will be ringing

Blessings will be showered upon us

Finally……the moment will come……when I should loose

The tight grip on my dads hand…………..

I’ll be snatched away from them…

Tears welled up my eyes

I started to weep terribly.

A tight embrace broke my reverie

It was my dad and mum

They were smiling,a radiant smile

Eclipsing all my sorrows

And as they guided me out from the room

I realized

They’ll never be away from me

‘cause without them

I won’t have a soul……..
